La Nueva Estudiantina is a project created by flutist Mg. José Fernando Ramírez, born from his passion for rediscovering and promoting Colombian musical heritage for estudiantina ensembles. Initially driven by the desire to create a musicological and interpretative production of the historical and documentary heritage found in some Colombian musical archives, the project seeks to revive and share this unique cultural legacy.

MUSIC TO WEAVE NATIONALITY
In various documentation centers across the country, valuable musical works are stored, many of which may never see the light of day. Such is the case of the works submitted to Composition Contests organized by major textile industries in the mid-20th century, such as those by Fabricato, known as the Música de Colombia Contest (1948-1951), and the Indulana Rosellón Contest (1941-1943). These contests significantly enriched the repertoire for estudiantina and radio orchestra formats, which were broadcast nationally on La Voz de Antioquia and Radio Nueva Granada.
Many composers from this period participated in these events to showcase their creations. Unfortunately, due to limited exposure, many of these works remained anonymous and were later forgotten in private or university archives.
La Nueva Estudiantina was born out of the need to share this forgotten musical heritage with new generations. In this new project, the ensemble focuses on performing works that were part of the Música de Colombia (1948-1951) contest sponsored by Fabricato and the Indulana-Rosellón (1941-1943) contest. The selected pieces contribute to the understanding of this highly representative format of Colombian Andean music.
